BOOKBINDING: Japanese Stab Binding

SATURDAY 27th JUNE 10am to 4.30pm In this one day bookbinding workshop with Hope Fitzgerald from Bindfulness, you will learn bookbinding techniques, specifically looking at the art of Japanese stab binding, inspired by Master Craftsman, Kojiro Ikegami. Japanese stab binding (fukuro toji) is a traditional, beginner-friendly, and decorative bookbinding method characterized by exposed stitching along a solid spine, often using four holes. As well as learning this technique, you will also be able to choose from Hope's beautiful collection of papers. You will use hand printed, one of a kind, suminagashi marbled paper, chiyogami paper, and other decorative papers, along with linen or hemp thread to make your own uniquely designed books. All materials, and tools for use on the day, are included. We will also fortify students with teas, freshly ground coffee, and cake! In the workshop you will learn about: • The selection of materials • Paper grain • Cover preparation • Various four hole binding styles • Some common bookbinding tools and how to use them safely Classes are taught through practical demonstrations and supported hands on work. You’ll take away your unique handmade books, new skills, and the satisfaction and wellbeing of a day spent creatively. Creative Courses is a multi-use creative space where you’ll meet new people, learn new skills, and be playful and creative in a relaxed, friendly environment. Tea and coffee, quality teaching, and materials are provided… you just turn up and enjoy your day. There is plenty of parking and the venue is 15 minutes walk from Faversham train station. The workshop is on the first floor of Unit 1C. Unfortuntely, there is no lift.Faversham train station. The Creative Courses Workshop is on the first floor of Unit 1C. There is no lift.
