From Frequency to Form
Feel. Listen. Create. SATURDAY 4TH OCTOBER 10am to 4pm Our senses play a crucial role in the creation and appreciation of art. They are the foundation for how we perceive, interpret and emotionally connect with artistic expression, and exposure to diverse sensory stimuli can enhance creativity. Psychologist Scott Barry Kaufman, author of Wired to Create, suggests that engaging our senses can lead to greater creativity by influencing our processing styles and emotional states. This one-day workshop focuses on sound, and our creative response to frequency. The day’s exercises and practices have been designed to open and expand all of your creative senses through sound baths and guided meditations. What can you expect? The day will begin with an introduction and welcome, followed by a bit of science on how sound frequency impacts us physically, emotionally and creatively. You will then experience a ‘Gong Bath’ which will last for around 30 minutes. Lay down or sit up, and then let the sounds of the gong wash over you, potentially leading to deep relaxation, reduced stress, and even altered states of consciousness. We'll take a short herbal tea break to do some mark making, and take some time to reflect on the experience. After lunch, a guided meditation focusing on all aspects of the creative body; the physical, emotional and spiritual, will lead us into an afternoon of painting in response to sound. What to bring All materials will be provided. Bring a bag or folder to take your work home in and an apron. You may want to bring a packed lunch, try to bring fresh or raw foods rather than ‘heavy’ or processed foods as this will assists the meditations, and your relaxation. You will also need to bring a yoga mat, pillow and blanket. Comfortable clothes are advised. If you would like, bring a cushion for extra support under your knees. Eye masks can be provided, and mats if you don't have one. What you’ll take away You will take away a number of pieces of work but more importantly a toolbox of new practices and exercise to enhance your creativity. Suitable for Adults of all skill levels, experienced artists who want to change-up their practice, ‘untrained’ artists who might need a starting point to get creative. Artist bio Michelle is a primarily a narrative painter, and also a trained wellness practitioner, accredited sound therapist and qualified mediation guide, hypnotherapist and shamanic practitioner.
