Impressions in silver

SUNDAY 19th APRIL 10am to 4pm Are you interested in making your own jewellery? Curious about silver clay? Join us for this one-day workshop where you’ll design and craft your own unique silver pendant, fired and ready for you to take home the same day. What to expect: You will learn about silver clay as a material; what it is, how to handle and prepare it for use, rolling out, applying texture and cutting the clay. To begin, you will plan your design. This might be a pattern, texture or drawn image. Using either lino circles or scratch foam, you will then create your texture mat. This will be used to make an impression in the silver clay. After drying, you will sand and refine your piece ready for firing. With guidance from jeweller Sam, you will torch fire, and then polish and finish your pendant. What you’ll take away: You will leave with a unique, finished piece of jewellery, ready to wear proudly, or gift to someone special. You will also have the knowledge needed to create your own future designs, and to safely and effectively use and fire silver clay. The workshop includes 10g of clay to make your pendant from, along with a chain to wear it on. What to bring: All materials, and tools for use on the day, will be provided. You may wish to bring a packed lunch. Suitable for complete beginners, and those with some experience of silver clay. This workshop will also suit printmakers, who can put their lino cutting skills to an interesting new use! Your tutor: Sam has been making jewellery for many years, working primarily in silver metal clay since around 2009. Since gaining her Jeweller's Academy Diploma in 2024 she also teaches, sharing both the practical knowledge and the creative confidence needed to work with this remarkable material. To find out more visit our tutors page. Tea and coffee is provided. There is a corner shop a short walk away, and parking at the weekend is easily available just outside. We're on the first floor with no lift.
