Introduction to Indigo
SUNDAY 14th SEPTEMBER 10am to 4pm Indigo is a magical process surrounded by mystery. During this one day workshop you will learn traditional shibori methods Kanoko, Itajime, Arashi as well as stitch resist techniques. Your tutor, Jude, has studied extensively in Japan with indigo masters, and we're very pleased to have her here at Creative Courses to pass on some of her knowledge of this beautful, ancient craft. What to expect: We will look at samples, discuss the making of various Indigo vats before moving on to working on creating your own unique design on a luxurious silk/cotton scarf. You will be using materials/tools sourced directly from Japan. When the resist pattern is completed then the magical dyeing can be done and you'll watch the green turn to indigo's beautifully rich, signature blue. What to bring: All material will be provided. You will need an apron and/or old clothes. You may want to bring a packed lunch. What you’ll take away: An individual, unique, beautiful indigo dyed silk/cotton scarf, inspiration and a curiosity to extend your knowledge. Suitable for all levels. Your tutor: Jude is a mixed media and textile artist, based in Kent. She teaches extensively in Europe and has exhibited internationally. She works with cloth and paper. Her working processes include eco printing, Shibori, natural dyeing, book binding, mark-making and hand stitching. She specialises in Indigo Dye, having studied and worked extensively in both Japan and France with Indigo Masters. To find out more visit our tutors page. Tea and coffee is provided. There is a corner shop a short walk away, and parking at the weekend is easily available just outside. We're on the first floor with no lift.
