Linocut printing - without a press
SATURDAY 22nd NOVEMBER 10am to 4pm Join Ieuan Edwards from Black Gold Press for this one day workshop, looking at the basics of linocut printing. The day will focus on techniques that can be continued at home using simple, low cost tools – no printing press required – so that your creativity can thrive beyond the workshop. What to expect: After a general introduction to linocut, you’ll begin to brainstorm and plan your design. A range of reference material will be available, with Ieuan on hand to advise at all stages. You will then draw or trace your design to the lino block ready for cutting. You’ll learn how to safely and effectively carve your lino block, before taking a well deserved lunch break. After lunch, you’ll ink up your print block, and explore a variety of methods of printing, all using inexpensive, but effective tools. What you’ll take away: You’ll leave with a small edition of your own, unique linocut prints, as well as a love of printmaking, and the knowledge of how to continue exploring this incredibly satisfying process at home. What to bring: • Please bring an apron or wear old clothes. • You may like to bring a packed lunch. • All other materials included. Your tutor: Ieuan Edwards is a professional printmaker who has exhibited widely, including at the Royal Academy, Mall Galleries, Somerset House and Bankside Gallery. He has a reputation for bold, detailed prints inspired by natural and man-made forms. Read more on our tutors page. Tea and coffee is provided. There is a corner shop a short walk away, and parking at the weekend is easily available just outside. We're on the first floor with no lift.
