Portrait Drawing: Pastels


FOUR SATURDAY SESSIONS Starting 26th September 10am to 12.30pm £140 Portrait drawing using coloured pastels In this practical four-week course, you’ll learn to create realistic, expressive portraits using soft pastels, while building confidence in a range of drawing techniques. You’ll develop essential techniques for capturing accurate facial features, proportions, and expression while achieving a strong likeness in your work. Through guided exercises and tutor support, you’ll strengthen your understanding of tone, contrast, colour blending, and detail, learning how to use the rich, vibrant qualities of pastels to create depth, texture, and subtle highlights. Your final outcome will be a full colour portrait of someone special to you. Suitable for: Beginners as well as those wishing to refresh, develop, or refine their portrait drawing skills. What you will need for this course: • Sketching Pencils (1 x 2B pencil is sufficient) • Eraser • Soft Pastel Set (assorted colours) - e.g. Inscribe or Derwent Academy set of 24 • Pastel Pad A4 (paper with pale shades) - e.g. Daler Rowney Murano Pastel Pad - Neutrals • Pastel Pencils (Optional) - e.g. Derwent Pastel Pencil Set of 12 (not included if you purchase our materials pack) NOTE: You can bring your own materials, or purchase them at checkout. This helps us keep the course cost down for those who already have their own. This course will run weekly (with a one week break) on Saturday mornings over four weeks, from 10am to 12.30pm. Contact us on 07786 256 934 Your tutor: Ilse Mikula is a South African artist based in Faversham. She holds a degree from Chelsea College of Art and PGCE from Goldsmiths University. Alongside her own artistic practice, she has extensive experience teaching drawing and painting. Ilse’s work is inspired by capturing the light and atmosphere of a place, often working plein air across a range of media. Tea and coffee will be provided. There is a corner shop a short walk away, and parking at the weekend is easily available just outside. We're on the first floor, unfortunately we have no lift.

Cancellation Policy

Bookings are non-refundable, but if you do find are unable to attend, please let us know as soon as possible. Up to 10 days before the event, you may reschedule your booking, subject to availability. After this time, no refund or cancellation is possible, but you are welcome to pass your booking on to a friend - just let us know. If you do reschedule your booking, this can only be done once in any six month period; subsequent rebookings will need to be paid for again. Please note, some workshops may not be repeated. No refunds or transfers will be given for no-shows.
