PRINTMAKING: Block printing on fabric

SUNDAY 7TH DECEMBER 10am to 4pm Discover the art of block printing on fabric in this engaging one day workshop, led by experienced tutor, printmaker, and textile designer Anne Davison. What you can expect: After an introduction to the traditional craft of block printing, and looking at some inspirational materials, you’ll design and carve your own linoleum block, which you will use to develop your pattern repeat. You will practise and refine your design on paper, before printing onto your choice of either a length of fabric, or a set of linen napkins. Additionally, Anne will also have a selection of Indian carved wooden blocks, which you can experiment with, and use alongside your own creations. Anne’s approach is to foster a sense of playfulness and creativity, encouraging participants to take an imaginative approach to pattern design. What you will learn: • Techniques for carving and creating linoleum block designs • Methods for developing and experimenting with repeat patterns • How to use both linoleum and Indian wood blocks for printing • The types of inks suitable for fabric printing You’ll take home your own unique block-printed design, either on a length of natural linen fabric, or a set of beautiful linen napkins. What to bring: • You may like to bring a packed lunch. • Please also bring an apron or wear old clothes. • All other materials included. Suitable for: This workshop is suitable for beginners.
