PRINTMAKING: Drypoint etching
SUNDAY 31st MAY 10am to 4pm Explore drypoint etching in a workshop led by tutor and print-maker Anne Davison. What to expect: Dry point is an intaglio printmaking technique where an image is scratched directly onto a plate (plastic) using a sharp needle. This etched line has a burr along the edge, which gives drypoint etchings their distinctive smooth, velvety lines. Participants will discover how to etch their plates, explore various colour combinations and inking methods, and experiment combining drypoint with with chine-collé to create their own individual prints. Chine-collé is a technique that enables you to add colour to your prints, by introducing thin, decorative papers in the printing process. Suitable for: The session is ideal for beginners or those new to this style of printmaking but also serves as a helpful refresher for more experienced individuals. The focus is on experimenting and enjoying this effective and accessible technique. What to bring: Please bring an apron or wear old clothes. You may like to bring a packed lunch. All materials are provided, but you may wish to bring some black and white images that you would like to use as inspiration for your etching (optional). What you'll take away • A selection of drypoint prints, some combined with chine-collé • An understanding of the drypoint process, and a good grounding for further printmaking exploration. Your tutor: Anne Davison is an established artist and printmaker, with a worldwide spread of clients and collectors. She is also an experienced tutor. You can read more about Anne on our Tutors page. Tea and coffee is provided, and you are welcome to use our small kitchen. There is a corner shop a short walk away, and parking at the weekend is easily available just outside. We're on the first floor with no lift.
