Save it, Share it, Shred it

SATURDAY 25th JULY 10am to 4pm £65 ‘Save it, Share it, Shred it’ is a writing workshop designed to free up your thinking, and awaken your creative voice. This workshop aims to inspire and stimulate the creative writer, through a series of sensory exercises and creative prompts. Using a combination of music, sound, textures, scents and visual imagery, as well as one-word suggestions, writers will be invited to explore what arises, and get it onto paper - without overthinking. Some ‘stream of consciousness’ exercises will encourage students to write for two or three minutes at a time, giving no attention to form or content; just emptying the mind and letting words tumble onto the page. Our friendly paper shredder in the centre of the table will serve as an incentive to write without a filter, no need for self-censoring. The second half of the workshop will invite writers to choose two elements of their writing to expand upon. Perhaps they have discovered a character they’d like to develop, or a descriptive piece that can be explored further. Writers will be encouraged to share and discuss their work, if they wish, but with no pressure to do so. This creative, non-judgemental and sociable workshop will actively encourage you to get lost in your imagination, and find your unique voice. In this workshop you can: ‘Save it’ - generate and leave with new ideas to continue exploring ‘Share it’ – discuss and develop your writing with other creatives ‘Shred it’ – at the end of the day, leave behind anything you do not wish to take with you, by cathartically feeding it to the 'Friendly Shredder'. This workshop offers the chance to get curious, share thoughts, ignite new ideas and meet fellow writers. It is suitable for new writers curious about ways to get started, as well as experienced writers looking for a day of inspiration, or a way to get unstuck. Your guide, Caroline, has a degree in English literature and an MA in Theatre Text from RADA. Her work has been published in several magazines. She is also a qualified counsellor and believes creative writing can be a powerful tool for self reflection and healing.
