Picture Framing Tuition

We offer private picture framing tuition in our professional workshop in Faversham, Kent.

Whether you are a beginner, just starting your picture framing journey, or a more established framer looking for more advanced instruction, we can offer bespoke training, designed just for you.

One Day Beginner's Course

Whether you’re looking for a new hobby, to frame your own artwork, or start the journey toward running your own framing business, our Picture Framing Tuition: One Day Beginners Course is the perfect starting point.

The course is run in my professional picture framing workshop in Faversham, Kent. One to one tuition enables us to work at your pace, and focus on your specific needs and interests. We can also accommodate two people, if you would like to attend as a pair.

The content of the day will vary depending on where you are on your picture framing journey, but regardless of your starting point, you will gain a solid grounding in the fundamental skills of picture framing. You’ll also get plenty of tips on choosing the right materials and tools, whether you’re considering continuing at home, or setting up your own professional workshop.

You will bring one flat artwork on paper (e.g. print, painting, or photograph) to a maximum A3 size, to frame on the day. You may bring several with you, to discuss and choose from. You will take home your completed item, framed and ready to hang. You will also leave with knowledge of, and confidence in, the processes involved in high quality picture framing.

The session is fundamentally practical, with theory included along the way. Have a good breakfast and bring a notebook. There’s more to learn than you might think!

This full day of tuition,10 am to 4pm, runs on Mondays, or at weekends, dates arranged to suit.

The cost is £235 for one, £185 each for two.
Includes all materials, and tools for use on the day, plus tea and coffee, and light refreshments (please bring your own lunch).

The day will include:

  • An overview of essential equipment

  • Glass cutting and safe handling, discussion of glazing options

  • Backboard cutting, and sealing the package

Tuition will be adapted to your needs, in particular with regard to the equipment you have, or are likely to have, access to. Please let me know in advance whether you intend to frame at home as a hobby, or if you have (or are intending to purchase) professional equipment, so that I can best adapt the day to suit you.

Equipment: In the workshop we have a Morso F mitre guillotine, Keencut Ultimat Futura mountcutter, pneumatic Alfamacchine underpinner, and Hoffman router, as well as a full range of hand tools. We also have some examples of home / hobby equipment, and can advise on how home or hobby framers can modify their practice for these.

About me: I have been a picture framer since 2020. Over the years, I have grown my business from modest beginnings, starting out in a basement workshop in the middle of a Covid lockdown, to a well-respected local company with an excellent reputation, and many loyal repeat customers. We have several part time employees, who all started with little or no experience, and have been successfully trained by me. I have been told I’m an excellent teacher. My aim in providing tuition is to pass on the knowledge I have gained, in order to create and inspire others in this diverse and satisfying craft.

Advanced training

For more established picture framers, advanced training is available by arrangement.  These days can be completely designed to suit your requirements. It is also possible to book 'project days' where we help you with a specific item, or task.

The number of items completed on these days depends on the complexity of the work involved. Material costs will be additional, and charged on completion. Tuition days can be designed completely bespoke to suit your needs - just get in touch.
