BOOKBINDING: Paste papers and sewn books

SATURDAY 6th FEBRUARY 10am to 4.30pm Paste paper is used for surface design. In bookbinding, it was historically a cheap and easy to produce alternative to traditional marbled papers. It's also fun to do, with great scope for creative experimentation. Add colour to wheat paste and apply it directly to the surface of the paper sheet. We’ll experiment with brushes, combs, decorative stamps, fingers, and any tools we can come up with to make a variety of patterns and effects. Once they’re dry, we’ll use the paper we’ve made to make non-adhesive sewn books in a variety of stitches. In the workshop you will learn about: The selection of materials Paper grain Paste preparation and recipe Pattern making tools and ideas Non-adhesive sewing techniques Some common bookbinding tools and how to use them safely What to bring: All materials, including paper, board, papers, bookcloth, linen thread and adhesive to make your own uniquely designed books are included. Tools are provided for use on the day. Tea, coffee and biscuits or cake will be provided. You may like to bring a packed lunch. What you'll take away: You’ll take away your unique handbound books, new skills, and the satisfaction and well-being of a day spent creatively. Creative Courses is a multi-use creative space. Tea and coffee, quality teaching, and materials are provided… you just turn up and enjoy your day. There is plenty of parking and the venue is 15 minutes walk from Faversham train station. The Creative Courses workshop is on the first floor of Unit 1C. There is no lift.
