BOOKBINDING: Quarterbound Hardcover Book

SATURDAY 18th SEPTEMBER 10am to 4.30pm In this one day workshop we’ll make hard cover books with 96 pages. We’ll begin by sewing a book block using unsupported French link stitching with waxed linen binder’s thread. We’ll construct a made to measure hard board cover with decorative paper featuring the contrasting spine of book cloth that gives the quarter binding its name. You will learn about bookbinding techniques and tools. We will look at the importance of paper grain and how to fold, sew, and cover your books to create useful and beautiful books. Using basic tools and techniques, you will learn a repeatable process that can be practised at your kitchen table. In the workshop you will learn about: The selection of materials Paper grain Sewing techniques Cover preparation Some common bookbinding tools and how to use them safely What to bring: All materials, including paper, board, papers, bookcloth, linen thread and adhesive to make your own uniquely designed books are included. Tools are provided for use on the day. Tea, coffee and biscuits or cake will be provided. You may like to bring a packed lunch What you'll take away: You’ll take away your unique handbound book, new skills, and the satisfaction and well-being of a day spent creatively. Creative Courses is a multi-use creative space. Tea and coffee, quality teaching, and materials are provided… you just turn up and enjoy your day. There is plenty of parking and the venue is 15 minutes walk from Faversham train station. The Creative Courses workshop is on the first floor of Unit 1C. There is no lift.
