BOOKBINDING: Sewn Boards Binding - Summer
SATURDAY 17TH JULY 10am to 4.30pm The sewn boards binding structure is a Bindfulness favourite. The modern sewn boards binding, a sewn and glued hard or soft cover book, is credited to Gary Frost. You will make a hardcover version of this book. The sewn boards structure design cleverly has an additional section of card sewn onto the text block that is incorporated into the cover of the book. It lays flat, opens beautifully, and allows for endless design variation. The finished book, with its modern lines and flush covers, feels wonderful in the hand. You will learn (or revisit) beginning bookbinding techniques. We will look at the importance of paper grain and how to fold, sew, and cover your book. What to bring: All materials, including paper, board, various decorative papers, bookcloth, linen thread and adhesive to make your own uniquely designed books are included. Tools are provided for use on the day. Tea, coffee and biscuits or cake will be provided. You may like to bring a packed lunch. What you'll take away: You’ll take away your unique handbound book, new skills, and the satisfaction and well-being of a day spent creatively. Creative Courses is a multi-use creative space. Tea and coffee, quality teaching, and materials are provided… you just turn up and enjoy your day. There is plenty of parking and the venue is 15 minutes walk from Faversham train station. The Creative Courses workshop is on the first floor of Unit 1C. There is no lift.
