Colour Linocut - Weekend Masterclass

WEEKEND COURSE SATURDAY & SUNDAY 24th & 25th OCTOBER 2026 10am to 4.30pm £180 Master the art of printing linocuts in colour with this weekend workshop run by Nick Morley (aka Linocutboy). Over the two days, you will learn how to effectively plan, carve and print a two block design, covering all aspects from the basics of carving the lino, through to effective and accurate colour registration. Linocut is a very satisfying and accessible printmaking technique. Although the basic principles of linocut are easy to learn, there are several things the printmaker needs to know in order to produce successful and impressive prints. Join Nick on this two part course for a sound grounding in how to plan, prepare and print a two colour design. In this workshop you will learn: • The tools and materials you'll need • How to plan your image and transfer it to the lino block • How to safely use a range of cutting tools to create a range of marks • How to ink the block correctly • How to print by hand, and with a printing press • Planning a multiblock design and working in layers • Colour mixing and colour blends • Registration What you’ll take away: By the end of the workshop you will have produced a small edition of your two colour print (A5 size). You will also have the skills and knowledge to continue making striking, colourful prints at home, or in your studio. What to bring: All materials are provided. You may want to bring a packed lunch. Please bring an apron or wear old clothes. Suitable for: This workshop is suitable for beginners and those with some previous experience. It may be your first printmaking, or you may have done some lino before and wish to add colour registration to your skillset. Your tutor: Nick Morley (aka Linocutboy) literally wrote the book (actually two books) on lino printing. He is an artist, illustrator, author and educator specialising in linocut, and is based in Margate, where he runs Hello Print Studio. He’s been teaching since 2007. Tea, coffee and light refreshments provided. There is a shop a short walk away, and weekend parking easily available right outside. We're on the first floor, unfortunately with no lift.
