Fountain Pen Ink Art: CMYK

SATURDAY 31st OCTOBER 10.30am to 2pm CMYK Fountain Pen Ink Art – Primary Colour Ink Mixing In this workshop, you will learn how to mix your own secondary and tertiary colours from just four Primary CMYK fountain pen inks, enabling you to create unique and fascinating hues using this extremely diverse art medium. This will prove very valuable for anyone who keeps sketch books and art journals, and is passionate about colour. What to expect Suitable for all ages and abilities, this workshop will give the necessary techniques and tips to allow students to create an array of ink colours, along with the ability to use them practically for art and illustration. Initially you will create a colour wheel using Nick’s own Primary colour fountain pen inks (Berber Blue, Desert Rose, Dune Yellow and Twilight Black). You will learn how to mix and create secondary and tertiary colours from these four primary inks. A colour photo reference of a Goldfinch or a Jay will be provided, and from this you will create your own beautiful version using the colours you have just made, with guidance and support from the tutor throughout. What you’ll take away • Your finished colour wheel and rendering of a bird illustration. • The skills and confidence to continue experimenting with inks at home or in the studio. • An infectious curiosity for all the amazing possibilities of this versatile medium. Your tutor Nick has spent much of his working life at some of London’s top creative agencies and design studios as a designer, visualiser and lettering specialist. He also spent 8 years at the University for the Creative Arts as a sessional tutor. Since 2015, he has been engaged with a personal project of re-imagining fountain pen inks as a creative medium for lettering and illustration. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided, and you are welcome to use our small kitchen. There is a shop a short walk away, and parking at the weekend is easily available just outside. We're on the first floor, unfortunately with no lift access.
