GILDED Scallop shells

**CORRECTION - the description here, and in the email, previously described this as water gilding, but it isn't. It will still be fabulous!** SATURDAY 12th OR SUNDAY 13th DECEMBER 10am to 1pm £55 In this workshop, you will learn the heritage craft of gilding. You will gild an object, in this case two large scallop shells, and one small decorative shell. The shells can have many uses, such as trinket dishes or tealight holders, be given as gifts or used as part of an opulent festive display. Scallop shells are part of our history, used as decorative forms and emblems, found in architecture, on pilgrimage trails, and in symbolism associated with the birth of Aphrodite. Gilding is a process whereby metal leaf is applied, giving the object a shiny gold finish. Some may say too shiny, so you will also learn how to achieve a simple antique finish or patina, which you can achieve with the flick of a paintbrush. This gilding lesson is accessible for all abilities, we will be using a water based size, dutch metals and glazes. All materials, and tools for use on the day, are provided. You will leave with the knowledge of how to gild, as well as your completed items, which will make wonderful festive gifts or decorations. What to expect : • Learn the basics of gilding • Discover the materials and tools needed, and how to use them • Explore antique finishes and patina • Complete your own beautifully gilded items SESSIONS RUN ON BOTH DAYS Choose your session on the calendar: Saturday 12th December OR Sunday 13th December 10am to 1pm. Why not combine with our afternoon gilded walnuts session and make a day of it? Your tutor: Amy is a visual artist who lives and works in Brighton.
